A New Life in Lamandau

Acuy's Joyful Arrival

Our friends at the Orangutan Foundation recently shared the exciting news that Acuy, a female orangutan, has given birth to her third infant in the protected Lamandau Wildlife Reserve. Learn about the new baby and our ongoing conservation efforts in the region.

Getting Comfortable With Her New Baby

With her experience as a mother who has already raised two orangutans, Amina and Ariel, Acuy tenderly carries her newborn infant, demonstrating the incredible maternal instincts of these creatures.

Acuy's generosity allowed the dedicated veterinarians and camp staff to get close enough to catch a glimpse of her precious newborn.

While they're yet to decide on the infant's name, we are happy to report that Acuy has welcomed her second son into the world, and both mother and baby are thriving.

More Than A Celebration; A Milestone

This new addition to the Reserve is more than just a moment of joy; it's a milestone. It brings the total number of recorded wild orangutan births in Lamandau to nearly 100 since its establishment in 1998.

This achievement underscores the Reserve's remarkable success in bolstering the local orangutan population and highlights its crucial role as a sanctuary for these endangered species.
