The Royal Adelaide Show in September was a great success for us. A wonderful troop of volunteers provided support to Anne Clark our tireless coordinator and the stall looked fantastic. Rangu our suited orangutan provided great entertainment for the children and helped considerably with the filling of the donation buckets. Good weather contributed to the success and that reflects on our result which was over $15,000 after expenses. A huge thank you to all the volunteers for their great effort in making this a very successful show.
The INDOfest was held on Monday 5th October. INDOfest is a collaborative effort of the Indonesian community of South Australia, and is hosted by the volunteer, not-for-profit, Australian-Indonesian Association of South Australia Inc (AIA-SA). 2015 marks the eighth annual INDOfest, a festival of Indonesian culture and food. Food stalls, cooking demonstrations, participatory activities and artistic performances including music and dance staged in the cultural precinct of Adelaide on North Terrace, utilizing indoor and outdoor spaces of the Migration Museum, the SA Museum, the Art Gallery of SA, and State Library of SA.
Despite appalling weather conditions we still managed to do well on the day. Thanks to Sam and Rachel for their patience as we managed the confusing set up challenges and to Sienna and Rebecca for packing up.
The wind picked up so much during the afternoon we called it quits early. The Uni stand went first from the wind, then the batik stand – they lost so much merchandise throughout the day – stock blew off constantly, stands collapsed, clothes racks fell over regularly, stock was broken as was their dressing mirror! We fared much better due to constant vigilance standing over our table. Only one plastic brochure stand didn’t survive the day! We raised a total of $850.30 less costs with net result of approx $550.00. Thanks once again to our volunteers.
Our next event will be a stall at the Vegan Festival which is to be held on Saturday 7th November, 2015 The aim of the festival is to allow others to network and share experiences and knowledge on veganism and at the same time to celebrate a cruelty-free lifestyle.
