South Australia

Hello from Jill Michelson and Rachel Bright, the new state representatives for S.A.

In this transitional period, we are currently moving slowly into our role but looking forward to the challenges ahead. Jill comes from a background in healthcare, starting off in nursing and progressing to health management. The last 11 years of her career were spent with an NGO providing family planning services in around 40 developing countries. She is now retired and a volunteer guide with the Adelaide Zoo, a position which has jolted her interest in animal conservation and the chance to work with the Project has enabled further opportunities for pursuing this.

Rachel has global experience in conservation, environmental planning and contaminated land in government, not for profit and consultancy. She is currently a land steward in the Adelaide Hills focusing on environmental resource management. Her association with The Orangutan Project has aided her to promote conservation as she endorses what the Project stands for.

Our next major event in South Australia is the Royal Adelaide show which runs from Friday 4th September through to Sunday 13th September. We still have a number of vacancies on the roster and would ask our volunteers to contact Anne Clark on kurraltaccc@bigpond.com if you can help out. If you’re unable to volunteer, it would be great if you could visit our stall with family and friends..

Just a reminder that the next volunteers meeting will be held at 6pm on Wednesday 26th August at the South West Community Centre, 171 Sturt St., Adelaide. This will be an important meeting for last minute Show details. It would be great to see you there but if not, meetings are held on the 4th Wednesday of each month.
