South Australia

October has been a little bit quiter than our mammoth September.

We finally were able to tally our takings from the Royal Adelaide Show and we made over $16,000 for The Orangutan Project. Once again, a big thank you to all the volunteers who helped me fill the 10 days, it would not have been possible without you.
The end of September and early October saw me heading out to a few schools around Adelaide to give presentations and these schools also did wonderful fundraising projects and raised big money for The Orangutan Project. Pembroke School raised over $650 through their fundraising efforts, three of the Year 2 classes at Pulteney Grammer School raised $330 so that they could adopt orphaned orangutans through the TOP adoption program, and some of the Reception and Year 1 students at North Adelaide Primary School ran a TOP merchandise stall for a week and raised over $1500 through sales, raffles and donations. A brilliant effort. I was invited back to North Adelaide Promary School to accept the cheque during school assembly. The Reception and Year 1 students were all wearing orangutan and did a wonderful song and taught all the other students and parents many wonderful facts about orangutans. Many inspirational young students there!

October has also seen some other events happening here in SA. On October 4th, Corinne Fidock put on a big party with bands and all proceeds were donated to The Orangutan Project! Thank you so much Corinne for your effort!! On October 11, Carole Matthews put on a fundraising event as Leo Biddle, head of Orangutan Project Malaysia, was here as the guest speaker. Leo's talks are always extremely engaging and this talk was no different. Thanks to evenyone who came along and made it such a big success! All proceeds from the night are going to the Matang Rescue Centre in Borneo. We dont have the final tally from both these events but we will let you know how much we raised in the next newsletter!
Lastly, we have a stall at Vegan Fest on November 16 in Victoria Square in Adelaide. This is always a great event so please come down and say hi and support The Orangutan Project!
