Adopt an orphan orangutan - who will you choose?

Every orphan orangutan cared for by The Orangutan Project has lost its mother due to poaching, or she might have been killed from wandering into an encroaching palm oil or paper plantation. It is heartbreaking for these infant orangutans who have seen their own mother killed and they have been left abandoned.

The lucky orphans that are rescued by our caring staff get to go to ‘forest school’ where they learn how to care for themselves and survive in the wild, to ensure they are prepared for when they are eventually released. They learn many forest skills, including how to build their own nests and hunt for food. 

Only 1 out of 6 orphans are lucky enough to be rescued - over 1,000 orphaned orangutans are living in rescue and rehabilitation centres. Care of these infants is costly and requires 24hr staff, veterinary, and nurse care to ensure they are in a healthy condition and have the best chance to survive – and possibly even return to the wild.

From as little as $65 you can make a real difference and help these infants survive. 



To support the orphans and their care centres, you can adopt one of the orangutans and make a real difference in their lives. TOP is in regular contact with the staff at the care centres and representatives visit the centres regularly to get updates on the orphans and how they are progressing.

All adoption money goes directly to helping the orphans at the various care centres we support:

 

• Sumatran orangutan release sites in Bukit Tigapuluh and Jantho.
• Nyaru Menteng Orangutan Reintroduction Project, Borneo, Indonesia
• Batu Mbelin Orangutan Quarantine Centre, North Sumatra, Indonesia
• Orangutan Rescue Centre, Ketapang, West Kalimantan, Indonesia

We are in regular contact with the staff at the centres and TOP representatives visit the centres several regularly to get updates on the orphans and see how they are progressing. You can make a real difference and help these orphans survive.

All adoption money goes directly to helping orphans at care centres we support and providing opportunities for a safe return to the wild.
