Rahayu still has a very sweet and gentle nature. She is growing a lot, now weighing over 16kg. She loves her food and enjoys a varied healthy diet. Rahayu is always the first to eat the leafy greens and vegetables which are full of good nutrition.
On hot days the orangutans often get ice enrichment, which is Rahayu’s favourite. Her eyesight is not as sharp as the others in her group due to cerebral malaria, but she is coping very well. She has even chased Melki, the biggest orangutan in forest school, up a tree to try to and steal his ice enrichment from him!
Rahayu is developing her climbing skills and is still content to spend time on her own. Orangutans are mostly solitary in the wild so it is positive that Rahayu is relaxed enough to be alone.
