write a letter to your local mpCan you write? Do you love Orangutans? Then we need you!!!
For some time now AOP has been unsuccesfully trying to get the attention of the Government to help with helping Indonesia and the Orangutans.
We need more letters to bring this issue to the attention of our elected representatives.
And if you happen to live in Bennelong thats even better. A little birdy deep inside Canberra tells us that targetting the PM via his electoral office is very powerful. If you dont happen to live near our PM then you can write to your local Federal Member.
Some ideas for your letter may include
- What is the Government is doing to stop the imminent exticntion of the Orangutan.
(Mention that we have heard that Australia has spent less than $350,000 on support over the past 5 years)
- What is the Government doing to ensure that the Aceh Tsunmai aid is not being used to chop down rainforests for housing
- What is our Government doing to ensure that Timber is labelled with country of origin so we dont uniwttingly buy Indonesian and Malaysian rainforest trees.
- What is our Government doing to ensure that we are not unwillingly buying and eating Palm Oil. Large tracts of rainforest are being destroyed daily to make way for new Palm Oil plantations.
Please send copies of any replies received to AOP so that we can monitor any promises made by Government.
