sounds of the orangutan

Hear the sound of an adult male orangutan. This particular sound is called a "long call" and it is used to warn off other male orangutans and to attract receptive females. The male orangutan utilises his throat pouch to create the loud roar which can be heard for distances of up to 1 kilometre (0.66 miles).
