These major ones are

  • The Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Programme Sumatra runs several projects from anti logging forest patrols to quarantine centres. For an updated report on these projects see the extensive article in our projects section. More information

  • The Orphan Care Centres in South East Asia. Nearly 1,000 orangutans are being cared for pending their return to the wild as soon as we can secure safe forest for them. More information

  • The Lamandau rehabilitation programme in South Kalimantan. In partnership with the Orangutan Foundation UK we are working to restore around 50,000 Hecatres and release up to 300 ex captive Orangutans over the next 2 years.More information

  • Peat Swamp Restoration in Central Kalimantan. The tropical peat-swamp forest of the Sebangau Ecosystem in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia is renowned for its high conservation importance and natural resource functions. It has recently been designated as an Indonesian National Park, primarily to protect the largest extant world population of the endangered Bornean orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus) with 6900 individuals estimated to occur here in 2003.   • Lower Kinabatangan Wildlife Sanctuary Sabah. Research towards a better understanding of orangutan ecology in disturbed forests. More information

  • Centre for Orangutan Protection (COP) in Central Kalimantan founded by Hardi Baktiantoro in early 2007 in response to the massive exploitation and slaughtering of orangutans due to the palm oil industry in Central Kalimantan. More information
