AOP has been successful in obtaining two Government grantsThe Federal Environment Minister today announced that AOP has been successful in obtaining two Government grants from the Department of Environment & Heritage, Regional Natural Heritage Program:
$93,511.00 SOCP: Bukit Tigapuluh Mega Fauna Survival Project
This project will build upon the success of last year's RNHP-funded Orangutan Protection Units (OPUs) in the protection of Sumatran Orangutan habitat in the Buikit Tigapuluh National Park. It will provide OPU members with advanced training in forestry first aid and rescue evacuations; training in use of Deercam cameras and monitoring technqiues and training in techniques for wildlife data collection. Cameras will be purchased and placed throughout the park for the ongoing monitoring and safety surveillance of threatened megafauna and satellite imaging and mapping produced.
$207,500.00 KOCP: The Malua Segama Wildlife Survey
The aim of this project is to ensure the long-term survival of the Orangutan population and the general biodiversity found in the forests of Sebah Malua/Segama, Malaysia, by implementing a baseline ground survey and aerial survey, which will be included as baseline data in the overall Forestry Management Plan. Goals are surveying and monitoring of all Orangutan sub-populations living in the area; identification of major threats to the Orangutans long-term survival; and contribution to the management of the Orangutan's population in Sebah.
