King George Square - Brisbane QLD

Created 11th Oct 2005
Temperatures soared but did not deter the hundreds of people who ventured into King George Square to visit the local markets, the RSPCA’s “Ban live Export “stall and of course AOP’s colourful display.

Brisbane put on a beautiful sun-filled day for our first event for WAW in the Sunshine State.

Our aim at this event was to raise awareness about the problems orangutans are facing with the huge problem of palm oil plantations, which now threaten to destroy their forest habitat. AOP volunteers gave out plenty of handouts, and answered many questions relating to this and other problems.

My next objective as a consumer is to try and make a difference by investigating products and food labels.

Thanks to Kris, Paola, Sharna and Kate for all their help.

Regards,
marion
